Common carpet beetle larvae take between two and three months to reach pupation varied carpet beetle larvae may need up to two years and black carpet beetle larvae develop in the larval stage for six months to just under a year.
The larvae are carrot shaped and long with a golden or brownish appearance. The carpet beetles never bite or destroy anything it is their young ones you should blame. As the carpet beetle grows its diet changes it starts consuming pollen and nectar from plants. They re covered with bristles. These tiny black beetle bugs belong to the family dermestidae and their larvae can be a true household pest. They range in color from black to speckled with white brown yellow and orange.
The duration of the larval stage also depends on the type of carpet beetle species and temperature.
